Canoe-Race with Barbecue
After a short drive by bus we arrive at a typical "Boat House", where the real Hamburg canoes are waiting for a rally. Teams of three to six people each are formed now and all teams get their canoes ready to start.
The excursion through romantic channels - including a short trip to the outer Alster-Lake- is scheduled and has to be managed as quick as possible.
Besides a lot of fun and excitement on the water you should not miss to admire and enjoy the beautiful scenery around you - like gracious villas, gardens and lawns stretching down to the waters edge. Nevertheless you have to pay attention to distinctive spots, which will be quizzed on later.
For choosing the winner-team and the accompanying award ceremony we recommend a tasty barbecue at one of the banks of the Alster Lake. (costs on request)
Duration: ca. 2.5 hours (canoe-race)
Costs: ca. € 30,00 per person
Alternatively to the canoe-race we recommend a race with dragon-boats - a stirring and absolute team-dynamic experience (Rates on request)
Races only bookable in the months from April to September
Velo Rallye
The hurdy-gurdy man welcomes your guests in his musical manner and of course he can not let off telling some "Döntjes" (funny Hamburg anecdotes).
After the guests have been formed into two teams and the questionnaires are handed over, the teams "take a run on the most impossible bikes" tricycles. Of course the teams must tell the bike taxis where to go. You should have a look at the questionnaire and….Alster - we are coming! However they should not only lay back in this unusual vehicle but also open your eyes, because "Udel" suddenly appears out of the shadow stopping the bike. In former times the Hamburg policemen were named "Udel" - he gives the answer to the right questions - do not stay too long, as time is important. From the distance you can already see the next gentleman, the so-called "Hummel" coming with the wooden troughs. In the Middle Ages he took water from the canals for the brewing of beer which is said to be the reason why the Hamburg beer has such a good taste. He also has an answer available for the bike-passengers. Though the guests do not have to make efforts by themselves (the driver should of course be spurred on), they slowly get the feeling of being hungry. That is just the right job of "De Köksch" - she was a cook of the noble houses of the Hanse City - who serves a delicious sandwich, which helps to focus the concentration again on asking the right question! But wait a moment…there is also "Zitronenjette" who wants to serve a refreshing drink. Those who know a little about Hamburg are still waiting for one historical symbolic character of the city. It is "Aal-Weber" - who still sells his freshly smoked eels on the fish marked these days - hurry up…..
Duration: ca. 3 hours
Costs: ca. € 129,00 per person
Hamburg Antics
When it slowly gets dark in the evening and quiet outside it is time to experience the history of Hamburg by torchlight.
You will find typical (and less typical) Hamburg characters at street corners and in small streets where it seems that time has never gone by. The guests are informed first hand what has happened in our city during the last 700 years
Stories of "Pfeffersäcke" and "Fleetkieker", of pirates and shipbuilders are told and shown by live performances and the guests experience mysterious, dramatic, sensational and amusing situations. And finally the secret of the well-kept mystery of the full-bodied Hamburg beer will be given away!
For the harmonious conclusion we recommend the fashionable Indochine Bar - located in the basement of the Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten. You are invited to relax, talk and enjoy yourselves in a warm Shanghai atmosphere of the thirties whilst enjoying a delicious cocktail.
Duration: ca. 2 hours
Costs: ca. € 35,00 per person (excluding drinks)
Face to Face with the Giants
- A Harbor with a Difference
Harbor tour - those words automatically conjure up a vision of launches gently moving across the Elbe - but there are some highly unusual sights to be seen on the land side of Hamburg harbor.
The coach sets off from Überseebrücke on a journey through time that takes you back over 800 years of the port's history. The days of conventional cargo handling come to life once more: Speicherstadt (the historic warehouse district) and the 1950s warehouses of Hamburger Hafen- und Lagerhaus AG - as you drive past old Kampnagel cranes, you can almost catch the smell of crates, sacks and drums. A view over the vast expanse of Hamburg harbor from almost 60 meters up, from the Köhlbrand Bridge, comes next-and suddenly we find ourselves back in the present. The modern, high-tech docklands offer us a fascinating glimpse behind the scenes. In possession of a special permit, the coach rolls right up to the terminals.
Thanks to the knowledgeable explanations of the tour guide, the bewildering confusion of van carriers and reach stackers on Burchardkai crystallizes into a smooth-running machine of filigree precision, and the interplay between automatic transport platforms moving as if by magic and fully automatic portal cranes in Altenwerder - the most up-to-the-minute container terminal in the world today - becomes one great big logical, logistical whole.
Now you can find the answer to all those questions that ever popped into your head at the sight of the big ships and towering gantry cranes as you strolled along the banks of the Elbe. Only trade visitors otherwise ever get such a close-up experience of the harbour.
Duration: ca. 3 hours
Costs: ca. € 48,00 per person
