The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa

SPECIAL EVENTS

The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa is a superb venue for a special occasion in one of the most picturesque locales imaginable.

During your stay at The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa, take advantage of the wide array of activities offered on and off the resort.

Grape Stomps at The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa
Ready to try a group sport that doesn't involve a club, racket, or any type of balls? Then may we suggest the most authentic event in Wine Country, a genuine grape stomp. Accommodating both large and small groups, the grape stomp uses authentic wine barrels as well as real wine grapes from local vineyards. During the stomp our Wine Country staff provides background information about the Sonoma Valley, the grapes, and the history of grape stomping and wine making. The team-focused competition also highlights individual effort. Each participant is encouraged to experience the sensuality of the grapes squishing between their toes while fellow team members push the grapes through the filter and into the one-gallon jugs. The team with the most juice wins fabulous wine awards, while individuals showing unique talent receive prizes as well. All participants receive a custom-designed grape stomp pin to wear proudly as a reminder of their day in the barrel.

Cooking Demonstrations and Wine Pairings
Acclaimed Executive Chef Bruno Tison and his brigade of culinary experts offer customized cooking demonstrations, wine tasting, tours along Sonoma's famed Organic Trail, and the unique "Corporate Culinary Olympics." Guests can also work alongside our chefs and learn how to prepare a valley-inspired meal. Menu planning and group adventures to the local Sonoma farmers' market may also be included.

Group Wine Tasting and Seminars
Fairmont Sommelier Eric Henson and his team fashion custom wine tasting to suit your taste.

Horizontal Tasting
A horizontal tasting involves wines that all come from the same vintage. You decide the vintage and you determine if you are going to place any other limitations on the wines involved. You might decide to have only red wines, or wines from a single grape variety, or just "Bordeaux First Growths;" but the wines will all be from a single vintage. A horizontal tasting is a good way to see which winery was most successful within a given year.

Vertical Tasting
A vertical tasting involves wines from different vintages, but all the wines will come from the same winery. If the winery produces more than one type of wine, you would select a single wine from that winery and taste multiple vintages of that wine. When you hold a vertical tasting, you are learning more about the differences between different vintages rather than the differences in wineries.
